How To Keep The Monsters Away

Written by Wes Schaeffer | Feb 01, 2010

"In regione caecorum rex est luscus."

"In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."

~ Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus

"The lamp of the body is the eye."
(Lamps shed light. Light dispels darkness. Monsters lurk in the dark. So light dispels monsters.)

"If your eye is sound,"
(Do you have fully charged batteries in your flashlight? If not, you merely have a large paperweight. You cannot be productive if you cannot focus and you cannot focus in the dark.)

"your whole body will be filled with light;"
(When your workplace is full of light you are energized because you can focus. When you concentrate on the task at hand it leaves no room for doubt or fear or darkness or boogie-men.)

"but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness."
("Quiet on the set! Lights out! Queue scary music! Release the monsters! Attack! Run! Be afraid!")

"And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be."
(Hello doubt, confusion, indecision, inaction, loss, despair, failure, unemployment, breadlines, government handouts, loss of the Pioneer Spirit, loss of guts.)
~ Jesus as quoted in Matthew Chapter 6

Harvey Penick, the greatest golf instructor of all time, taught his students such as Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw and Mickey Wright to "take dead aim."

If you are a golfer you know that your bad shots, your disasters, your chili-dips, your skulled smiley-faces, your yanks, your bananas, your club-throwing, golf-god-cursing shots occur when you are focused on what could go wrong rather than on the target.

Napoleon Hill, who wrote the greatest personal-success book of all time, "Think and Grow Rich," taught us the power of the Master Mind.

Finally, Stephen Covey, author of the greatest self-help book since I was born, "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" reminds us of the power of habits, both good and bad and we all know that it takes 21 days to form or break a habit.

What Are The Odds?

If I was a gambling man I'd say it has been more than 21 days since...

  • You re-charged your own batteries.
  • The monsters started coming out from under your bed.
  • Your focus became fragmented, distracted, blurred.
  • You participated in a Master Mind group whose members wanted nothing more than to find ways to help you succeed.
  • You began questioning your sanity as to why you were in business in the first place!

Am I right?

Choices

Life is full of choices: coffee or tea? Easy 8-iron or hard 9? Pity party or celebration of excellence? Delete this email or take action.

One simple, affordable, interactive, protected way to take action is by enrolling in the Make Every Sale program.

You get lifetime access to network and brainstorm with other ambitious business owners and sales professionals and pick my brain every week to see if I merely have a few moments of creativity when I pen this letter or if I really do know what I'm talking about.

For less than a daily heart-stopping, belt-bursting "Angry Original" at Burger King you'll learn how to afford and savor the finer things in life by taking control of the sales process.

You choose.
