Yesterday I shared a bit of insight on another sentence that stood out to me from "The Goal" by Eliyahu M. Goldratt.
It dealt with common sense and how it usually flies "directly in the face of everything I'd ever learned."
On the same page as yesterday, the protagonist realizes that the only reason he and his team had the courage to implement those common sense solutions that flew in the face of everything they had ever learned is because they had to work their butts off to learn those lessons and reach their "obvious" conclusions.
As the father of seven, I can tell you that the best way to teach your kids to be competent, confident, contributing members of society is to let them struggle a bit when they are learning something new and DO NOT let them quit when it gets hard.
"Do not deprive your children of deprivation."
When my youngest asks, "Daddy, how do you spell (insert word)?" I reply, "I don't know. How do you think you spell it?"
And 9 times out of 10, they get the word right the first time, but 10 times out of 10, they learn that they are smarter than they realized.
That's why you have to give your people room to struggle and even fail at tasks sometimes.
That's why you need good mentors and masterminds who give you the room and the encouragement and the time to work things out on your own so you not only know the answer but understand it.
When that happens, your potential is unlimited.
When you leap before you look, trusting the wisdom and experience and benevolence of others, that's when trouble happens.
Every. Single. Kick. To. The. Shins. I've ever received came because I jumped into something I couldn't explain to a fifth grader on the back of an envelope.
The internet bros and goo roos yank your chain with FOMO and BOGO because they want you to doubt yourself and place blind trust in them so you'll leap into their bank account before you look.
It's sad, but shady money changers and carpet baggers have been with us for thousands of years, and technology just makes the unscrupulous more ubiquitous with their offers.
Just say no.
In much the same way I can't go to the gym for you to make you stronger, I can't just hand you the lessons you need to grow in faith, family, fitness, and finance.
But I can give you a proven exercise routine...and meet you at the gym...and spot you...and encourage you...to help you get the most out of every rep, every exercise, and every session.
Does that mean you'll win the next UFC championship? Probably not.
But it does mean you probably won't get sand kicked in your face at the beach the next time you go because you'll look fit, you'll act fit, and you'll be fit.
And bullies only pick on the weak.
(Yes, this means the internet bros are bullies, but I digress.)
Growth in anything takes time and effort.
You can go fast if you go alone.
You can go far if you go together.
We're tribal, social creatures, so let's go together.

P.S. Tomorrow, I'm talking about guts and conviction. Few have the courage of their convictions, which is why so many ventures in life fail.
It doesn't have to be that way.
People buy you. You must be your first sale. And I'm not just talking about business.
Nothing in life happens in isolation. That's why I deal with faith, family, fitness, and finance in the 12 Weeks To Peak™.
Our world has enough of the mediocre majority.
It's time to stand up, stand out, and be counted.
