On the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu mat.
Last night I trained with a Brazilian, a Russian, a member of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians, an Hispanic, and a Filipino.
On other days I train with Asians, blacks, and 20 other people that I have no idea about their heritage or ethnicity.
I train with firefighters, law enforcement, Marines, Navy SEALs, Navy rescue swimmers, one crazy Air Force dude, and Soldiers.
I train with VPs of Sales of major corporations and construction workers and baristas.
I train with senior citizens, women, and children.
I train with dudes that have been in prison.
I train with helicopter pilots.
I train with body builders and dudes that are looking to lose a lot of weight and get into shape for the first time in their lives.
It's amazing how well we all get along when we have a goal that is bigger than ourselves, when we don't focus on ourselves, when we seek to help one another learn a new skill, when we all realize the value and the importance of the journey.
If you want peace...meet me on the mat tonight at 6 pm.
Get there at 5:45 to sign in and get your gi.
Bring a lot of water.
Check your ego at the door.
Don't plan any major activities for tomorrow. You'll be sore.
I'm not kidding.
See you on the mat.
