(First posted 2/3/17) When faced with death you do what you have to do to live. Are your sales alive and kicking or fluttering and floundering?
Socrates was approached by a man who kinda, sorta, off-the-cuff mentioned in a rather detached, dispassionate manner that he would like to have the wisdom and knowledge that Socrates possessed.
So Socrates did the obvious thing.
He walked him down to the ocean and pinned the guy underwater until he nearly drowned the poor slob.
After the man said "WTH?" Socrates asked him, "What do you want?"
"Air!" replied the dude. "Air!"
To which Socrates replied, "Good. As soon as you want knowledge as much as you want air you will have it."
So what keeps you up at night?
Do you really want to get better at sales?
Do you really want to grow your business?
Do you really want to make more money?
Or would it just be nice if you made those things happen?
While I'm not a fan of living a crazy, hectic, out-of-balance life, there are periods in everyone's life when you must go all-in if you want to excel at something.
When "Pistol Pete" Maravich was a kid, he'd dribble the basketball eight hours a day in the summer and 4.5 hours a day in the winter.
Larry Bird would start every day with 500 jump shots and forced himself to hit 99 free throws in a row before he'd stop.
Jeff Bezos worked 12-hour days, 7 days a week, and started his day at 3 am when he was getting Amazon off the ground. (He now gets eight hours of sleep.)
If you're not where you want to be in any area of your life, you must become fanatical about it, or you won't build up the momentum to do it long enough, and with enough intensity to reach your new goals.
When I go serious about becoming great at sales, I hired a coach, and he made me follow a script and record my calls. (This was 2006, before all the video apps and iPhone and social media domination.)
Following a good script actually helped me relax.
Recording my calls helped me get better FAST!
I became fanatical about getting better, and it paid off.
If you're ready to become fanatical about getting better in sales, I can help you.
