Today Is The Best Day In The Year

Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Howdy.

In the 1986 movie, "Hoosiers," with Gene Hackman, his small town team arrives in the big gymnasium for the state championship and they are overwhelmed. But Coach knows how to calm his kids, as you can see in the YouTube clip below. (It's worth 2 minutes and 39 seconds of your life.) In the clip, he pulls out a tape measure and has his players measure the distance from the goal to the free throw line: 15 feet.

Then he has them measure the height of the goal: 10 feet,

Just like our gym back at Hickory."

The kids laugh and they get the point.

A court, is a court, is a court, regardless of its shell.

They proceed from there to get dressed for practice and follow their routine as if it was any other game as they set their sites on winning, not on the distracting outer shell.

Today, tomorrow, December 31st, January 1st, April 15th, June, 3rd, etc. is just like every other day, of every other year of your life, in that is is comprised of:

24 hours
1,440 minutes
17,000 eye blinks
86,400 seconds
103,680 heartbeats

The confetti and noise makers and champagne and dropping ball and fireworks of certain days are the outer shell. Enjoy them for all they are worth, but remember that what's inside is what counts.

So whether you are celebrating the end of a terrible day, week, quarter, or year or are high-fiving a glorious one, today and tomorrow are exactly the same, and they are what you make of them.

Tomorrow can be different, if you want it to be and if you focus on making it so.

Here's to you making every day the best it can be.

Happy New Year & Good Selling,

Wes
